Adolescence is a time of profound transition and can seem incredibly overwhelming. Indeed, teenagers have left behind their childhood but not yet stepped fully into their adulthood. This liminal time is both scary and an opportunity to give birth to what is most essential. As a wilderness guide, I feel most alive in supporting young people as they come into contact with that which makes them uniquely themselves. This process of self-discovery is mirrored in and supported by the natural world. I am honored to be a part of this process and approach it with humility, authenticity, and wonder. I believe environmental education, backcountry skills, self-awareness, arts education, and pure adventure can come together in profound ways. I have experience guiding backcountry backpacking trips with the Boys Outdoor Leadership Development (BOLD) program, The YMCA Center for Young Adults, and The Evergreen School. I strive to provide a physically and emotionally safe trip so that the youth can rediscover their connection to nature, learn about ecological interconnectedness, and just play! As a Wilderness First Responder and Rite of Passage Guide, I offer my gifts to participants, the community, and the planet. With a sense of wonder, presence, and shared joy, I am fortunate to support people as they embrace their wholeness and true power! With Rites Of Passage, Inc. and Rite of Passage Journeys I am honored to support teens in coming-of-age experiences in the wilderness. Time and time again, I have found that their journey into the wilderness is a reflection of the deeper exploration of the wilderness within. They are not only traversing unknown terrain, they receive the support and guidance of the natural world. My role as Rite of Passage guide is to mirror to them the gifts and allies they already possess and celebrate with them as they come to know their true selves in new ways!
